Top 5 Ways to Clear a Stuck Printer Queue

Nothing’s more annoying than hitting print and seeing your document stuck in the queue. If this keeps happening, don’t worry, we’ve got 5 simple solutions to help you clear it and get printing again.

Printer Job Stuck in a Queue

1. Restart Your Printer and Computer
Sometimes, a quick restart is all it takes.

How to do it:
Turn off your printer (unplug it), then restart your computer. Turn both back on and try printing again.

2.Cancel the Print Job Manually
If restarting didn’t help, try canceling the stuck document.

How to do it:
Go to Printers & Scanners → select your printer → Open print queue → right-click the stuck file → hit Cancel.

3. Restart the Print Spooler Service

The Print Spooler manages your print jobs. Restarting it often clears issues.

How to do it:
Press Windows + R, type services.msc, press Enter → find Print Spooler → right-click → select Restart.

4. Delete Spooler Files Manually
Still stuck? Clear the spooler folder.

How to do it:
Stop the Print Spooler (as above) → go to C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS → delete all files → start the Print Spooler again.

5. Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers
Old or broken drivers can cause issues.

How to do it:
Open Device Manager → find your printer → right-click → choose Update driver. Or uninstall and reinstall the latest driver from your printer’s website.

These steps usually fix most stuck print jobs. If it keeps happening, your printer may need deeper troubleshooting—or a new driver update.
